Until now, almost 50% of pipelines in Russia are made of metal, due to the low corrosion resistance of which utilities require repair in the first 10–15 years of operation - in general, the term is ridiculous for a building. Replaced steel pipes came polypropylene - inexpensive, corrosion-resistant and very simple to install. They did an excellent job with metallic flaws, however, due to their own flaws, as well as a huge amount of falsification that rushed into the country from manufacturers with no name, they somewhat lost their reputation. What are the pros and cons of single-layer polymer pipes in comparison with multi-layer pipes, where they are best used and which companies should be trusted - this is in our rating.
We present to your attention the advantages and disadvantages of polypropylene and metal-plastic pipes and their main differences.

Top 10 best manufacturers of plastic pipes made of polypropylene
10 Blue ocean

A country: UK (produced in China)
Rating (2019): 4.0
In the bulk, Chinese polypropylene pipes are suitable for garden irrigation systems - there is no question of heating or running water. Decent companies from China, whose products reach some European standards, can be counted on the fingers of one hand, and the Blue Ocean is one of them. Its products are certified by the Dutch system Kiwa, the German DVGW and the British WRAS. Under the brand "Blue Ocean" 4 types of PP-pipes are presented:
- ordinary unreinforced;
- fiber reinforced;
- Reinforced with aluminum (non-stripping and stripping).
The manufacturer’s advertising claims are fairly true: in comparison with other Chinese samples, its pipes are eco-friendly, light and smooth, retain heat well inside and provide excellent sound insulation. In addition, buyers have a wide selection of colors and neat performance. But a comparison with the Europeans will not benefit the Chinese brand.
9 Pro aqua

A country: Russia
Rating (2019): 4.0
In professional communities, Russian plastic pipes are predominantly skeptical. But there are no rules without exceptions - the company Pro Aqua, which has existed since 1997 and has since increased its production capacity 2.5 times, the masters have a fairly good account. We do not undertake to assert that its products are on par with German and Czech PP-pipes, but to some Turkish brands and the absolute majority of Chinese manufacturers it constitutes a serious competition.
A particularly valuable property of polypropylene pipes made in Russia is their ecological purity, which allows them to be used in drinking water pipelines. In addition, the “Pro Aqua” pipes withstand a sufficiently high pressure (70 atmospheres), although for a short time. It is considered good and resistance to aggressive substances. Given the low cost, they can be used in domestic and industrial piping systems, but only in those where there are no serious requirements for temperature and pressure.
8 Tebo

A country: Turkey
Rating (2019): 4.2
The range of Tebo includes pipes and fittings with a diameter of 20 to 160 cm and nominal PN10, PN20 and PN25, as well as products reinforced with aluminum and fiberglass. Their cheapness (for example, 1 m of PP-pipe PN20 costs about 30 rubles) is alarming to some buyers, but in fact it is a fairly high-quality and reliable product from a trusted manufacturer. In any case, in the profile reviews they assume that the pipe structure of cold water supply is able to work without changes in throughput capacity for up to 30 years, and in heating systems for at least 15 years.
Separately, we would like to note the possibility of using “Tebo” pipes in the highways of the chemical industry, intended for the transportation of aggressive chemical compounds. This is possible because of the chemical resistance of Turkish products are practically comparable with the best Czech and German samples. As for the minuses: the shape of some pipes looks more like an oval than a circle, which increases the risk of a water hammer, another disadvantage is the small selection of fittings.
7 Pilsa

A country: Turkey
Rating (2019): 4.3
The most common pipes in Russia are Pils. The brand has earned its popularity with attractive prices, fairly good wear resistance and durability, as well as relatively high elasticity, thanks to which it is convenient to mount branched heating systems and hot and cold water supplies. With proper installation and operation (for example, the temperature in the DHW system should not exceed 95 ° C), Pilsa products are capable of stable service for at least 10–15 years.
Of the more or less significant shortcomings of plastic pipes can be called a difficult installation. Reinforced products require careful stripping of the aluminum layer in the areas of the joints, because of which it is better to resort to the services of professional plumbers. There are some problems with the form - the section in some places is initially deviated from the norm, and with time it can be deformed even more.
6 Valtec

A country: Russia-Italy
Rating (2019): 4.3
Plumbing products "Valtek" is a complete solution for the "turnkey" kitting of facilities under construction and reconstruction. In the portfolio of buildings, where the equipment of the company is installed, are the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Theater. Mussorgsky, Arcadia Palace, as well as residential complexes, hotels, offices, business centers and city administrations. As for private housing, according to the manufacturer, products under the Valtec brand can be seen in every 4th apartment.
The company began to manufacture polypropylene pipes in 2010, and to date it has produced almost the entire pipe range. The list of products includes both single and multilayer pipes - PPR, PP-Fiber and PP-Alux, plastic and composite fittings.Reviews about them are somewhat contradictory, in particular, there are complaints about the appearance of leaks over time. However, such cases are less and less common, and so that they completely disappear, the company holds seminars and webinars on competent installation, provides access to technical literature, standard solutions, training videos, albums and schemes.
5 SupraTherm

A country: Romania
Rating (2019): 4.5
Under the SupraTherm brand, a large Romanian manufacturer Supra Group manufactures and sells PP-pipes and fittings. Its products, despite the fact that the company has existed since the beginning of the 90s, appeared in Russia relatively recently, and still it can not be found in every plumbing shop. However, if the search for the material in short supply is crowned with success, you can consider yourself lucky - its quality is fully consistent with German, and the price is more than attractive.
The Supraterm pipeline systems are accompanied by certificates of major international standards - DIN 8077-8078 (wall thickness regulations) and EN ISO 15874 (full control of all properties of polypropylene pipelines). Experts have repeatedly checked the actual compliance of Romanian products with the regulated indicators and confirmed that the company holds the brand and does not allow itself to save on consumers. And it is not surprising that she orders PP-raw materials from Germany for her products, and metal from Italy.
4 Wavin Ekoplastik

A country: Czech Republic
Rating (2019): 4.7
Czechs are not inferior to the Germans in the production of plastic piping systems - their company Ecoplastic is listed among builders in good standing. After the merger with the international brand Wavin, it became the largest European manufacturer of polypropylene pipes, uniting 40 enterprises in 29 countries of the world. The best-selling product in the range is Fiber Basalt Plus pipes reinforced with basalt.
Unlike other series of tubes with an intermediate layer of fiberglass or aluminum, basalt pipes are made of PP-RCT thermostabilized polymer. This provides a higher temperature resistance and reliability of the pipe structure and, as a result, expansion of the field of application: basalt fiber-reinforced pipes are used for arranging both water and heating mains. PP-RCT also produces EVO series all-plastic pipes, which are fully suitable for organizing plumbing with hot and cold water.
3 Wefatherm

A country: Germany
Rating (2019): 4.8
Plastic water supply systems have been manufactured under the Vefaterm brand for more than 30 years and enjoy deserved respect in 50 countries around the world, including Russia. Its products are much more affordable for Russian consumers than Banninger and Akwatherm, and in terms of quality they are almost as good as they are made from PPR-100 raw materials with high strength characteristics.
As a result, single-layer PP-pipes of the PN20 group and above are sufficiently resistant to pressure and temperature differences, are not subject to blockages and can be used for 50 years. Wefatherm Stabi pipes, reinforced with metal, have an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion, which eliminates the use of fitting-compensators and save on installation. From the point of view of assembly speed, the Wefatherm Fiber pipes are even more profitable - they do not require a stripping step and show themselves very well in drinking water pipelines, in air-conditioning systems and ventilation.
2 Akwatherm

A country: Germany
Rating (2019): 5.0
The manufacturer’s pride, Aquaterm, is a polypropylene-based material called fusiolen, created by its specialists more than 35 years ago. Due to the introduction of special additives, its quality and performance characteristics surpass similar products. So, pipes from fusiolen have a low coefficient of thermal expansion, do not allow oxygen and can be operated in a wide temperature range - from ‒40 to +95 ° C with possible short-term jumps up to +110 ° C.
Not surprisingly, Akwatherm pipe products, despite the high cost, receive the most positive feedback from both professional installers and home craftsmen. They call the key advantages of the product a wide range of applications, the ability to deliver in coils (true for Fuzioterm C pipes) and consistently high, truly German quality — both raw materials and final products are produced in Germany. This allowed the company to receive a certificate from the Institute of DVS, confirming the service life of up to 100 years.
1 Banninger

A country: Germany
Rating (2019): 5.0
The German brand "Benninger" appeared in 1987 and today personifies the highest quality standards in the production of polypropylene pipes and fittings. The firm calls its main advantage an excellent assortment, which allows to solve all the technological tasks of arranging water supply, heating systems and other engineering structures. The company produces PP-RCT pipes with a diameter of 20 to 125 mm with increased hydraulic capacity, designed for cold and hot water systems.
For the organization of water heating, the manufacturer offers fiber-reinforced pipes Faser and Stabi, reinforced with aluminum foil. In the catalog, they can be distinguished by the marking of FW and B, and the differences in properties consist in increased throughput (FW) and a significant decrease in oxygen permeability (B). In addition, polypropylene pipes for air-conditioning systems Fiber Climatec with FC index, various fittings and installation tools are manufactured at factories located directly in Germany.
